Just In Time For Winter

Ok so I can no longer deny the fact that winter is coming… Thankfully this phase has its perks – namely, an excuse to refresh the old wardrobe and go hunting for a new shiny coat. From sleek and refined styles for the minimalist, to luxe furry cover-ups and showstopping vibrant colors, these trends are giving me serious coat envy!

The Cloak (or Cape)
If you love the feeling of being bundled up and you’re tired of traditional silhouettes, then great for layering, the cloak or cape coat is just the thing. The cape is the classically stylish option that evokes images of timeless glamour, effortless sophistication and elegance.

The Heavy Duty Shearling
Featured on the fall ’15 runways from Michael Kors to Lanvin, the fuzzy shearling fabric appeared in a variety of ways (vests, car coats, even on dresses) but the simplicity and tomboy appeal of the bomber makes it one of my faves.

The Duster Coat
Slouchy, oversized and androgynous, the duster is the next extension of the boyfriend style that puts a more elegant and sophisticated spin on the masculine aesthetic.

The Vibrant or Patterned Statement
Turn heads in a burst of fuchsia or in a combo of colors or patterns. It’s the way to brighten up the dreary outdoors.

The Wrap (or Robe)
A tie-front style gives a bit of dimension and character and as an added perk, it’s slimming on the waist. Who wouldn’t want that? I say, wrap it up! Word to the wise: This style looks best with heeled boots or booties. (Flats tend to make it seem like you actually just rolled out of bed.)

T Tahari

Gray Mia Wrap Coat, $531

Fun Fur Coats
The epitome of vintage glamour, a fur coat is timelessly chic. From nautical stripes to camo print, this season designers have showed that there’s no better way to keep warm and stand out than in fun furs.

French Connection
French Connection
Beige Stardust Long-sleeve Faux-fur Coat, $398

PS: When it comes to ethical fashion that’s animal cruelty free, there are a number of fab faux alternatives, which look just as good as the real thing,  if not better.
