Is this the end of the Nintendo Wii U? According to a report from the Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Nintendo will reportedly cease production of their tablet/console hybrid by the end of the year. Ceasing production of the troubled system will likely align with the production and launch of their upcoming console, tentatively named the Nintendo NX.

On a personal note, I just don’t understand the appeal that Minecraft seems to have with gamers. Maybe it’s just my cynicism as an older gamer but I find it difficult to see what exactly it is that makes this game so charming? Despite my cynical sentiments, Nintendo and Mojang announced today that Minecraft will arrive next week on December 17 via Nintendo’s eShop for $30. No news yet as to whether a physical copy of the game will be released. Mojang also confirmed that Minecraft for Wii U will support off-TV play via the GamePad.
